Learning Center by IFFF:

Learn to tie your first fly, learn to cast, and make knots easy. The
Federation of Fly Fishers will be teaching kids from 8 to 80 on the
basics of fly fishing. Be sure to stop by their learning area on the
show floor during the show.


IFFF is once again joining the Fly Fishing Show with several fly-fishing events held during show days. Call Rod McGurry to register at 207-615-4804.
1) Free continuous introductory fly casting instruction during show hrs.
2) Federation of Fly Fishers Testing for Certification:
      • Masters Designation Testing - Friday, January 17 at 9am. (pre-registration  
         requirement)
      • Certified Casting Instructor Testing - Saturday, January 18 at 9am.       
        (pre-registration requirement)
3) Professional Casting Instructor Continuing Education Workshop - Saturday, January
    18 at 1pm - 4pm (pre-registration requirement)
4) How to get Going and Get Certified as an IFFF Fly Casting Instructor - Saturday,
    January 18 at 4:30pm (open to Show attendees)

Spey Casting Class with Michael Mauri: Europe’s most respected caster is here from Germany to teach only four lucky casters his Spey techniques. On the show ponds after the show closes. All Levels. Register Here.

The classes will be held in the Royal Plaza Best Western Hotel. The Spey class is in the Exhibit Hall. Check-in there at the ticket counter at 5:45. For all other classes, check-in at the hotel 15-30 minutes prior to the start of class.  If a class is cancelled, you will be notified prior to the show and permitted to switch or receive a refund.

Note: Most tying classes require some tying experience and others may require more. Ask us when you call. Beginners are welcome, but be prepared for more than basics. All students must bring their own tying vise, tools, lamp if needed, and a sampling of materials. Most classes will provide adequate materials for the patterns being taught.  If a class is canceled, you will be notified 5 days prior to the show and permitted to switch or receive a refund.

Casting Classes: Bring your own rod, reel & line.

Fly Tying Classes: Bring your own vice, lamp, tools & a basic selection of materials.


To insure quality instruction class size is limited. Call us for more class descriptions or availability. Classes will fill and close, so register early.
